Guilt free globalisation ribs

We often talk about globalisation and how it comes in the form of business or technology… but another good sign of how globalised a destination is can measured by what food is available.

For a long time I would get the guilts when ordering a burger in Thailand, or eating a wonderful bowl of pasta in China. I felt like I was in some way disrespecting the local cuisine… but long gone are those days! There is no questioning my love for eating local food, but I am now of the opinion that if the food is good (regardless of cuisine) then it should be eaten. I am here, ready, and reporting for duty!

One of the standout meals I had in Indonesia was a hearty serve of BBQ pork ribs, washed down with a particularly potent martini. In a country that is predominately muslim, and in Bali where the food is particularly fine, it felt almost sacrilegious… but that didn't stop me and clearly not any of my fellow diners.

Hog Wild In Bali not only passed the test, but is right up near the top of my list of recommendations for Bali. The ribs are wonderful, as are some of the local soups (if the guilt is something you are still working through). Located just north of Seminyak the restaurant is just outside the Aussie bogan tourist zone, so you’ll be dining with some die hard food fanatics that have done their research. If you’re travelling through Ubud then the original sister restaurant Naughty Nuri’s is also worth a visit.

If globalisation means more pork ribs this good, I’m all for it!
