Travel can be a rewarding experience in so many different ways. While you will likely see great sites, stay in fabulous places, and eat wonderful food, it is the people you meet that often delight the most.
I want to bring you stories of people that have in some way made my travels more complete.
As I have travelled through foreign countries and explored new places, I can think of numerous incidents where all I wished for was a familiar face. New customs and cultures can sometimes be extremely hard to navigate, and have at times have left me feeling frustrated or lost. The differences can at times be stark, but it doesn't take long to discover that kindness is for most part a pretty common trait, and humanity a wonderful thing.
It’s human nature for people to connect with people, and every new face you meet is an opportunity to make a real connection. Where and when you meet these people can vary quite significantly. It might be the people you end up sitting next to on the chairlift to the Great Wall of China that become lifelong friends. Or it might be your wonderful guide such as Maxi who welcomes you into their world on the island of Sumba, giving you an insight into a different walk of life. There are the jokers that make you smile, and the ones that make you think, and others that you instantly become life long friends with.
Whoever it is, and wherever it may occur the people you meet around the world will help you understand a little more about places you visit, and the wonderful world in which we live… and isn't that what travel is all about?
